BEST OF 2014 - TWITTER

People send more than 500 million Tweets per day. Each one contributes something special to Twitter, but only one is recognized as the “Golden Tweet,” a.k.a. the most-Retweeted Tweet of the year. This year, the honor goes to @TheEllenShow’s starry photo from the March Oscars telecast:

Lets have a look at what was trending on twitter this year globally

#WorldCup: The biggest sports story in 2014, especially on Twitter. Fans, players, teams and media sent over 672 million Tweets during the month-long tournament. At its peak, there were 618,725 Tweets sent per minute — the largest peak we measured this year — when Germany (@DFB_Team) took home the championship.

#BringBackOurGirls: In response to a mass kidnapping in Nigeria, millions of Tweets were sent mentioning #BringBackOurGirls. This map visualizes the hashtag’s global spread over a two-week period.

#IndyRef: Scottish citizens used Twitter to say “yes” or “no” regarding a referendum on independence from the UK in the days leading up to the vote in September. This interactive map of geotagged “yes” or “no” Tweets shows the global nature of the conversation, which spread well beyond Scotland. Fom the first debate through polling day, there were more than 3.75 million Tweets about the referendum.

#Hong Kong protests: When citizens of Hong Kong gathered to protest governmental electoral reforms, characterized by the hashtag #occupycentral, people over the world took to Twitter to add their thoughts. There were more than 2.3 million Tweets about what became known as the #UmbrellaRevolution. Here are the most shared photos, and here’s how the event played out on Twitter.

#BlackLivesMatter: There were more than 18 million Tweets about the #Ferguson protests in August, as charted in this visualization. In the hours following the grand jury’s decision in November, there were 3.5 million Tweets from across the U.S. Also tied to a similar grand jury decision in New York, this map shows how powerfully the hashtags #ICantBreathe and #BlackLivesMatter shaped the conversation on Twitter.

MICROMAX YU YUREKA - THE BIG REVIEW

Micromax entered into a new foray of custom built Cyanogen OS smartphones. Micromax has unveiled the new Yu Yureka. Micromax has invested in the Yu range and has even signed an exclusive contract with Cyanogen to be the only seller of Cyanogen smartphones in India. Let’s have a look at the smartphone and its specifications.

PROCESSOR
Micromax Yureka is powered on a 64-bit 1.5GHz octa-core Snapdragon 615 SoC (MSM8939 with Adreno 405 GPU and 2GB of RAM. It is as good at it gets at this price segment.

DISPLAY
It bears a 5.5-inch HD (720x1280 pixels) IPS display with a pixel density of 267ppi and also has Gorilla Glass 3 protection for better protection against scratches and should also be less reflective in bright light.

CAMERA
The rear includes a 13MP CMOS camera with a f2.2 aperture for better low-light photography. In addition, there’s 5MP front camera that has a 71 degree wide angle lens. Decent camera as in its rival smartphones.

ANDROID
This dual SIM smartphone features a custom built Cyanogen OS 11 which is first of its kind in India (legally). CyanogenMod is an open source operating system and is based on Android operating system. It offers features and options not found in the official firmware that is distributed by most mobile device vendors.

MEMORY
Micromax Yu Yureka has 2GB RAM and an internal storage of 16 GB. It is expandable to 32GB with microSD.

BATTERY
The smartphone has a 2500 mAh Li Po battery which should be enough.

PRICE
Micromax YU Yureka is priced at a mind-blowing Rs.8,999/- . Surely this is going to give headaches to its rival companies.

There is only one verdict. Micromax has the idea to end 2014 on a high. The phone is  targeted at mid-range users keeping the Indian community in mind. However the battery life is of a little concern. Get your hands on it as soon as you can. It is an excellent phone for its price.

TRIBUTE TO NIRBHAYA

         YOU ARE NOT ALONE
Just reading a daily newspaper on a bright morning a few days ago, guess what did I see on the cover page, ‘Three youth molest girls on a moving bus in Rohtak, Haryana’. These kind of headlines have been a regular nowadays. Whenever you open a newspaper, there will surely be 2 or more cases on it regarding molestation, rapes, etc. According to reports, about 600 rapes/molestations occur in Mumbai every year. But why us only? India is a secular country where people from all religions, caste and creed reside with peace and harmony. This is the same country where these cases keep increasing exponentially day by day.
No sooner than ever these molesters get arrested after days after the crime. In the courts too, the same scenario unfolds and get out on bail due to some means. These people can actually commit he heinous crimes again. So what are we doing to stop this? Absolutely Nothing. That is altogether a different topic, but have we thought of the girls who experience this kind of torture, what will they do in their coming future, how will the society behave with them? Truly speaking our society is overfilled with people having a closed mind-set without any scope for development. This is a question of a great dilemma whether they should be treated like untouchables only because some mad men molested them. Societies like Khap Panchayat are creating a dangerous scenario for women with unsatisfyable conditions.
There is a lot of means by which, we, the next XYZ generation of India can help. As most of us are educated, it is our duty to stand beside them, make our society aware of the consequences and help change their mind-sets. The victims must be made to believe that they are not alone and never will be. There is a lot of life left to frown upon. This December will be the 2nd anniversary of the ‘Nirbhaya case’, which itself was a revolutionary instance in Indian culture. The movement received so much attention, all thanks to the media and soon became an agitation. At the end, justice was achieved, but we lost her. She has now become an example for many other such victims to stand up, fight and live their lives.
The government, by its mode, is also trying its best to curb this crime. Along with it, this issue must be raised from the roots. Every teenager must be taught how to encounter these situations in case of emergency. Various campaigns have been initiated on social media like Facebook & Twitter. National Commission of Women (NCW) is also trying its best efforts to ensure that the monsters who commit such crimes should not be spared. Awareness drives should be started in urban as well as rural areas to counter these issues.
While continuing on my news which was started in the 1st paragraph, the girls who were assaulted in a moving bus have tackled the three molesters quite bravely with one even beating them with a belt. This incidence came into notice as the video was recorded by a fellow passenger on a mobile which later went viral. The Government will be honouring them for their bravery on Republic Day. A big salute to these girls and hope that many others have the guts to take them head on.
Let’s take a pledge that cases of molestation must be stopped in our country and India will become rape-free. Whatever happens, we should support them, ensure that they are not alone and never will be.
