IS GEN NEXT READY FOR TECHNICAL EDUCATION?
Recently, few days ago I read an article about availability
of Technical Education for secondary school students. It stated that it was urgently
required to speed up the technical education systems in schools in order to
achieve greater proficiency among students.
Technical knowledge is very important at school level.
It has become the need of the hour. Nowadays, we all need to learn to use basic
computers, mobiles, laptops; otherwise we will be considered ‘illiterate’.
Also, every 5-year child now knows to use smartphones. They are capable to
doing tasks like adding a calendar event, customising the home screen, creating
notes and so on.
Hence, a major section of our society is of the view
that we must include subjects of computer –science-level in secondary school.
It might help the students to learn programming at an early age and foster
their skills. Imagine children in your society learning COBOL, BASIC, FORTRAN, PYTHON,
etc. It’s hard to believe that it can ever happen. However, it’s possible that they could ever
lean something like C, C++, Java, etc. It should also become the part of curriculum
in Humanities, economics, Commerce, etc.
Technology is basically applied science. It need not
be restricted to a single field alone but be used in every possible way. Well,
being fair it has some disadvantages. Such imparting of technical knowledge in
students can have an adverse effect. Many of them can be distracted from what
they should learn. Overlearning can also result in a student hacking his own
university website to alt eth marks and grade. An extra emphasis will also lead
to lack of depth in other aspects.
Concluding with a hope to our topic question “Is gen next
ready for technical knowledge “, it can be said that yes, in order to progress,
but it should be in phase and we should wait until our education system becomes
technically fool-proof. This would lead to development of our nation and ‘MAKE
IN INDIA’.
