TRIBUTE TO NIRBHAYA

         YOU ARE NOT ALONE
Just reading a daily newspaper on a bright morning a few days ago, guess what did I see on the cover page, ‘Three youth molest girls on a moving bus in Rohtak, Haryana’. These kind of headlines have been a regular nowadays. Whenever you open a newspaper, there will surely be 2 or more cases on it regarding molestation, rapes, etc. According to reports, about 600 rapes/molestations occur in Mumbai every year. But why us only? India is a secular country where people from all religions, caste and creed reside with peace and harmony. This is the same country where these cases keep increasing exponentially day by day.
No sooner than ever these molesters get arrested after days after the crime. In the courts too, the same scenario unfolds and get out on bail due to some means. These people can actually commit he heinous crimes again. So what are we doing to stop this? Absolutely Nothing. That is altogether a different topic, but have we thought of the girls who experience this kind of torture, what will they do in their coming future, how will the society behave with them? Truly speaking our society is overfilled with people having a closed mind-set without any scope for development. This is a question of a great dilemma whether they should be treated like untouchables only because some mad men molested them. Societies like Khap Panchayat are creating a dangerous scenario for women with unsatisfyable conditions.
There is a lot of means by which, we, the next XYZ generation of India can help. As most of us are educated, it is our duty to stand beside them, make our society aware of the consequences and help change their mind-sets. The victims must be made to believe that they are not alone and never will be. There is a lot of life left to frown upon. This December will be the 2nd anniversary of the ‘Nirbhaya case’, which itself was a revolutionary instance in Indian culture. The movement received so much attention, all thanks to the media and soon became an agitation. At the end, justice was achieved, but we lost her. She has now become an example for many other such victims to stand up, fight and live their lives.
The government, by its mode, is also trying its best to curb this crime. Along with it, this issue must be raised from the roots. Every teenager must be taught how to encounter these situations in case of emergency. Various campaigns have been initiated on social media like Facebook & Twitter. National Commission of Women (NCW) is also trying its best efforts to ensure that the monsters who commit such crimes should not be spared. Awareness drives should be started in urban as well as rural areas to counter these issues.
While continuing on my news which was started in the 1st paragraph, the girls who were assaulted in a moving bus have tackled the three molesters quite bravely with one even beating them with a belt. This incidence came into notice as the video was recorded by a fellow passenger on a mobile which later went viral. The Government will be honouring them for their bravery on Republic Day. A big salute to these girls and hope that many others have the guts to take them head on.
Let’s take a pledge that cases of molestation must be stopped in our country and India will become rape-free. Whatever happens, we should support them, ensure that they are not alone and never will be.
